Burchill Farm is owned and operated by Doug and Lillian Burchill. The farm is located on a Section (640 acres) of pristine land – perfect for exploring on horseback, (heavily treed) with groomed trails and a pretty little lake. Over 200 acres stands a high quality Alfalfa~Timothy crop and another 40 acres is dedicated to the horses; it’s seeded to grass with mature spruce dotting the landscape for shelter. The Icelandic horses have the most natural environment with which to grow and thrive.

Lillian brings over 27 years of equine care and managment; possessing Farrier and Equine First Aid certificates, attended annually The Alberta Equestrian Federation Owner and Breeder conferences. In 2017 she completed the FEIF Breeding Seminar at Red Feather Icelandics, Trout Lake – Washington. She worked for years as a parent volunteer with Canadian Pony Club, supporting daughter Lindsay in the pursuit of equestrian knowledge and riding skills from age 6 until age 18. Grandfather Fredrick Barton Ainley was a WW1 veteran, a rancher, a teacher, an accomplished rider and trainer (attending the Calgary Stampede several times as a participant). The Ainley family in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia were well respected horsewomen and horsemen in their day.

Doug grew up raising registered Labrador retrievers helping his Dad train and show dogs in Alberta Field Trials. Doug and Lillian along with their daughters raised and trained Labrador retrievers for many years in Field Trial and Obedience. His path to the horse came late in life; he does however possess a natural ability to ride and for a good many years Doug enjoyed riding his horses Chase and Trigger. Dougs hands-on approach and knowledge is instrumental to the up-keep and maintenance on the farm.

Their combined skills and experience, along with years of courses and training, make for a well-rounded team who excel in every endeavour. Doug and Lillian have successfully owned and operated numerous profitable businesses (large and small) during the past two decades; these entrepeneurial skills, their love for all animals, along with their passion for Alberta are what drew them to the realization of Burchill Farm.
